Bottom of the 9th Inning. Video begins at 3:37:12 PM, EDT Although this video does show that the base runner left early, that is not what the dispute was about. At 04:51, the field umpire calls the runner safe. This call is technically incorrect, as the runner leaves the base at 04:43, but the Center Fielder does not catch the ball until 04:44. Immediately, Dodgers players begin calling for an appeal, but no appeal is officially made, and at 05:01, the 2nd Baseman tosses the ball back to … the pitcher, ending the play. (According to the Blaze, this closes the Dodgers window to appeal the play.) However, the umpires allow the appeal to proceed anyway. At 05:20, the pitcher throws the ball BACK to the 2nd Baseman, and appeals the play. Home Plate Umpire announces his decision at 05:34, and calls the runner out. The Blaze then puts the game under protest and a lengthy argument ensues. Home Plate Umpire tries to restart the game at 08:15, but a particularly vocal Blaze player (possibly the manager) insists that he is required to sign his book, acknowledging to the protest, before the game can continue. The umpire declines to do so, and the next pitch is thrown at 09:15.Read MoreRead Less
